Prairie Burn Planned

A Prescribed Prairie Burn will happen at Lapham Peak on Tuesday November 17th.

About 30 acres on the West Side of Lapham Peak between Cushing Road and Highway C are scheduled.

An additional smaller 2-3 acre burn is scheduled inside the East Side of Lapham Peak, just North of the Nature Center near the paved walking trail.

While these areas are being worked on, signs will be posted, and access to those areas will be restricted; the rest of the Park will be open.  If you have questions on these dates about access or availability, call the Park Office 262-646-3025

Prescribed controlled prairie burns promote the growth of healthy native grasses and wildflowers, minimize invasive plants and trees, and remove thatch that can cause uncontrolled wild fire situations.  A contracted firm is managing the burn for the Friends of Lapham Peak and the DNR.  Generous funding to make this possible has been provided by a Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program grant, and by the Friends of Lapham Peak, and by Dan & Melissa Jarecki, and other private donations.
