Beyond the Shutter: Mastering Wildlife Photography with Jeff Engel Sunday, April 19, 2026 10:30 am-12:00 pm
Ready to capture the best wildlife images of your life?
In this high-energy program, Jeff, who is a full-time nature and wildlife photographer, will share the real-world techniques he uses in the field to consistently get powerful wildlife images. He will cover camera settings, lens choices, composition, and how to adapt quickly in changing conditions—whether you’re photographing birds, big game, wildlife in your own backyard, or right here in the Park.
He will break down exactly how some of my images were captured—so you can understand not just the settings, but the decisions behind the shot and apply them to your own photography.
With decades of experience photographing wildlife across North America and more than 400 days on safari in Africa, Jeff will take you behind the scenes of incredible encounters—and show you how to turn those moments into memorable images.
Jeff will also explore how understanding animal behavior helps you anticipate the moment and be ready when everything comes together.
Many of the images for this program have been taken right here in our own Lapham Peak State Park.
Also joining Jeff will be a special guest, Rick Sasek, who will share his very interesting wildlife photography journey, along with images he has captured at Lapham Peak.
If you’re looking to improve your skills and come away with stronger, more impactful images, this is a program you won’t want to miss.
