Lapham Peak Volunteer Receives Award

Michael Neimon received a 2025 Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Invasive Species Action Award, which was presented at the Wisconsin Cranberry Research Station near Black River Falls, on June 4, 2025.

Mike is one of Lapham Peak State Park's regular "Buckthorn Buster" volunteers.  He was nominated by John Hillmer, who is the park's Habitat Restoration Coordinator and President of the Friends of Lapham Peak.

The Waukesha Freeman and Oconomowoc Enterprise newspapers ran a nice article regarding Mike and his work, click to see a PDF of the article.

On a recent Monday, Mike took a vacation day to lead a dozen students from Kettle Moraine High School, and about a dozen Buckthorn Busters, to clear buckthorn and other invasive species from a section of woods at Lapham Peak, their work will help save this forest so that new natural growth can survive, and maintain this part of the Kettle Moraine's landscape, for the flora and fauna to thrive.
